Question

Why doesn't a car move when we give it a sharp push and it moves when we give it a gradual acceleration? Isn't the rate of change of momentum larger when we give it a sharp push? Then why doesnt it move when we give it a sharp push? Please explain

Solution

When we given a sudden push to car, the force should be more than the force of friction offered by ground to start the movement of car.
In usual cases this much force is not given by us.So simply the car doesent move when we give a sudden push.
But in the case of providing gradual accelaration, the force is given directly to the wheels and that force is enough overcome the frictional forces. So the car is moved on gradual accelaration.
So in this case the movement of car simply depends on the force we apply.
Good luck.
