Question

Why electrolysis of molten lead bromide is considered to be a redox reaction?

Open in App
Solution

During the electrolysis of molten lead bromide, lead ions are discharged at the cathode where they oxidize by gaining electron whereas Br1 ions are discharged at the anode where they get reduced by losing electrons.
Hence as the oxidation and reduction occur simultaneously it is a redox reaction.
