Question

Why hydrogen and oxygen are not used in making chemical bonds with other elements instead of carbon

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Hydrogen and oxygen make chemical bonds with other elements also.

For hydrogen-

When halogen reacts with hydrogen then hydrogen halide is formed.
When hydrogen reacts with nitrogen then ammonia will be formed.
Similarly, hydrogen reacts with other elements also.

For oxygen-

When oxygen reacts with lithium then its oxide is formed.
When oxygen reacts with Potassium then peroxide is formed.
Similarly, oxygen reacts with other elements also and form different products.
