Endangered species are those animals which are on the verge of becoming extinct.
Red data book is a state document which is published by IUCN and it contains a red list.
Red list contains a list of endangered species of animals and plants as well as the local sub-species that exist within the territory of the state or country.
Indian rhinoceros and Asian elephants are considered as endangered species and hence they are included in the red list of red data book.
They are considered as endangered species because they are massively hunted for their horns.
Now rhinoceros are protected in Kaziranga national park and Asian elephants are protected in Bandipur sanctuary, Madumalai sanctuary, etc.
