The name atom itself is Greek for uncuttable or indivisible, however, the transfer of electrons is technically considered not dividing the atom, but atoms are most certainly divisible. Einstein's theory of relativity and the nuclear bomb prove that the energy created by dividing the atom is E=mc2. When the uranium atom is split it releases tons of energy in a nuclear explosion. The atom is made up of neutrons and protons surrounded by the electron cloud. The individual neutron and protons themselves can also be divided into quarks and other unusual particles that are currently being investigated by scientists.
