Question

Why is area inversely proportional to resistance?

Open in App
Solution

Conductor Resistance:

The resistance of a conductor is the resistance in the flow of electric charge through the conductor.

The area of the cross-section is inversely proportional to resistance because:

  1. Resistance inside a conductor is caused by the collision of charged particles or electrons with each other
  2. When the area of the cross-section of the conductor is increased space between charged particles will also increase.
  3. So the probability of collision of electrons will also decrease.
  4. Thus resistance will decrease when the area of cross-section of the conductor is increased.

Therefore, the area of cross-section and resistance are inversely proportional.
