Question

Why is the electric field uniform in parallel plates?

Open in App
Solution

Electric field: An electric field is a physical field that surrounds electrically charged particles and exerts a force on all other charged particles in the field, either attracting or repelling them.

In parallel plates, the electric field is uniform;

  1. The field is approximately constant because the distance between the plates is assumed to be small in comparison to the area of the plates.
  2. The field is approximately zero outside of the plates due to the interaction of the fields generated by the two plates.

Thus, the electric field in parallel plates is uniform.
