Why is Euglena not a plant cell?

Open in App
Solution

Euglena:

  1. Euglena also known as euglenoids are unicellular microorganisms that have a flexible body.
  2. They have a single flagellum (hair-like appendage) which helps them in locomotion.
  3. They have both characteristics of plants and animals, as they have chloroplasts.
  4. They perform the process of photosynthesis in the present of sunlight.
  5. But they lack a cell wall and they behave as heterotrophs in the absence of sunlight.
  6. Hence, they can't be called as plant cells.
