Why is FeO(s) not formed in stoichiometric composition?

In FeO crystals some Fe2+ cations are replaced by Fe3+ ions. Two Fe3+ ions replaces two Fe2+ ions to make up for the loss of positive charge. Due to this there is less amount of metal as compared to stoichiometric proportion.
