Why is honey bee pollination so important?

Open in App
Solution

Pollination:

  1. Pollination is the process by which the pollen grains from the anther of the stamen (male reproductive organ of the flower) reach the stigma of the ovary.
  2. Honey bees help in the pollination process while collecting nectar for honey.
  3. Honey bees account for more than 80% of pollination.
  4. There are more than a hundred critical crops, which are pollinated by honey bees.
  5. Hence, pollination by honey bees also results in a higher number of fruits, seeds, or berries.
  6. It also increases the quality of products and the efficiency of pollination may also help to protect the crops against pests.
  7. Hence, sufficient pollination causes the development of all seeds in a fruit leading to a better weight.
