Question

Why is it dangerous to replace a fuse wire with a copper wire?

Open in App
Solution

The disadvantage of using copper wire instead of fuse wire

  1. The melting point of copper is higher than the melting point of tin used in fuse wire.
  2. When the heavy level of current flows through a copper wire, it starts to heat but it will not melt it will cause a short circuit.
  3. Since Copper has low resistivity and a high melting point so it is dangerous to replace a fuse wire with copper
