Meristem vs Permanent tissues:
Meristems are actively dividing cells and can be directly cultured on a nutrient medium to grow and develop into a plant in a controlled environment whereas permanent tissues consist of mature cells that do not divide and grow further.
Thus, culturing plant parts made of permanent tissues requires the use of specific combinations of growth hormones that can induce dedifferentiation of the permanent tissues and stimulate them to become meristematic again, whereas meristems do not need the use of specific growth hormones to induce cell divisions. Therefore it is easier to culture meristems compared to permanent tissues.
