  • Its electronic configuration is 2, 8, 1.
  • Thus, Sodium has a high tendency to donate one electron and form Na+ ion.
  • After the removal of one electron Sodium acquires the stable noble gas configuration similar to Neon.
  • Due to which second ionization potential is quite high. That is why, Na+2 ion is not possible.
