Why is neon maintained at low pressure in neon lights. What if the pressure is increased.

Solution

In neon bulbs (Neon lights) the neon gas is illuminated through the electric discharge between electrodes. The electric current will pass through the neon gas under reduced pressure and Neon illuminates due to the electric current. If the Neon is filled with atmospheric pressure, the electric current will not pass through Neon. Hence no illumination will be there to produce the light.
