Question

Why is the filament of the bulbs made of metal and not of wood?

Open in App
Solution

Doesn’t conduct current through wood.
Incandescent “light bulbs” work by allowing electric current to heat the filament so that the temperature increases, glowing and emitting photons (light).
Incandescent filaments need to carry electric current within a range of resistance so that the material glows without breaking down.
