Solution

Importance of nitrogen for plants:

  • Nitrogen is the most abundant gas in the atmosphere.
  • It is about 78% in our atmosphere.
  • Nitrogen is very important for the growth and development of plants.
  • Atmospheric nitrogen is converted into nitrites and nitrates ions by lightning and by some nitrogen-fixing bacteria.
  • Plants then absorb these ions through their roots along with water.
  • In this way plants use nitrogen for their growth and development.
  • Fertilisers are also used to provide nitrogen to plants.
  • Therefore, for the proper growth and development of plants, nitrogen plays a very important role.
