why mercury is used in thermometer called in thermometer?

Dear student, Mercury is the only metal that is in liquid state at room temperature, other metals are solid. Since, mercury has high coefficient of expansion, a notable change is seen with the small increase in the temperature, hence it is used in the thermometer. Regards,
