  1. Plants are eukaryotic, autotrophic organisms.
  2. They can synthesise their own food using the process of photosynthesis.

Autotrophic nutrition:

  1. The mode of nutrition where an organism synthesises its own food is termed as autotrophic nutrition.
  2. Plants are autotrophic and are also known as primary producers since they synthesise their own food.
  3. They use photosynthesis to convert sunlight, water and substances such as oxygen and carbon dioxide into simple food like glucose.
  4. It acts as their food and provides them energy.
  5. Plants need to synthesise their own food because unlike other living organisms, plants can not move and cannot hunt.
  6. But, for their sustenance they need food, therefore they have to make their own food.
