Why RER membrane is rough in nature?

Open in App
Solution

RER:

  1. RER also known as Rough endoplasmic reticulum is a cell organelle present in both animal and plant cells.
  2. It helps in the synthesis of proteins due to the presence of ribosomes on its surface.
  3. RER along with SER (smooth endoplasmic reticulum) forms the endoskeleton of the cell.

RER membrane is rough in nature because:

  1. Rough endoplasmic reticulum appears rough, if viewed under a microscope.
  2. It is so because of the presence of ribosomes on its surface.
  3. Ribosomes are yet another cell organelle that help in the synthesis of proteins.
