Question

Why voltage is greater than emf while charging

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

EMF is the potential stored in the battery. It is measured across the terminals when no other circuit elements are connected to it. An ideally fully discharged battery has EMF=0. While charging, the EMF of the battery slowly increases, reaching the charging voltage. When the battery is totally charged, the EMF of the battery becomes equal to that of the charging voltage(Ideally).
