Solution

Dear Student,

Zinc sulphide is fluorescent compound coating of tube because when the alpha rays strike the gold foil then they emit some particle nature ray and when it strike the zinc sulphide coated tube then it produces a light or spark as zinc sulphide is fluorescent material. If tube was not coated with zinc sulphide then how it would possible to detect or withdraw any conclusion from the experiment.

Apart from zinc sulphide other fluorescent material can be used but with condition that it will not interfere with the working of experiment.
