The Ryots were reluctant as-
  • Indigo had deep roots and makes the soil lose fertility rapidly. After an indigo harvest the land could not be used for rice cultivation.
  • The indigo cultivators were getting very little profits thus it was not helpful them.
  • The ryots were forced to grow indigo on best land and that too was forced thus creating dissatisfaction.
