Prime Minister Attlee announced that British would quit India by 30th June 1948. If the Muslim League did not join the Constitution Assembly the government would have to consider to whom the power of the Central Government should be handed. Lord Wavell was recalled and Lord Mountbatten was appointed the new Viceroy to solve the disputes of the Muslim League and the Congress as the Muslim League demanded Pakistan.
