Solution

Heating of Gypsum:

  • When Gypsum(CaSO4.2H2O) is heated to a temperature of 100oC(373K), it loses one and a half molecules of water and forms Plaster Of Paris [Calcium sulphate hemihydrate(CaSO4.12H2O)].
  • Reaction can be given as follows: CaSO4.2H2O100°CCaSO4.12H2O(Gypsum/Calciumsulphatedihydrate)(PlasterOfParis/Calciumsulphatehemihydrate).
