The keeping (involving care and management) of bees for obtaining commercially important substances such as beeswax, honey, etc. Honey is obtained from nectar (a sugary secretion of the flowers of plants) and is one of the most nutritional food items. Bees while obtaining nectar from flowers also help carry out pollination of the flowers and act as good pollinating agents. They thereby help the owners of orchards and farmers. Apis sp. are most commonly maintained in apiaries.
