Each point: 1 Mark
1. Plants prepare its own food by a process called photosynthesis.
2. Photosynthesis is the process of converting light energy to chemical energy and storing it in the bonds of sugar.
3. This process occurs in plants and some algae. Plants need only light energy, CO2 and H2O to make sugar inside a green pigment present in leaves called chlorophyll.
4. During the process of photosynthesis, plants make glucose and oxygen.
5. The starch is used by plants as energy for converting nutrients and minerals into other organic compounds and to reproduce. The oxygen so produced is released into the air which is consumed by other living beings for their survival.
