ADDISON'S DISEASE
1) Addison's disease, also known as primary adrenal insufficiency and hypocortisolism,
2) It is a long-term endocrine disorder in which the adrenal glands do not produce enough steroid hormones.
3) Symptoms generally develop slowly and include abdominal pain, weakness, and weight loss.
4) Treatment involves taking hormones to replace those not produced by the adrenal glands.
CUSHING'S SYNDROME
1) Cushing's syndrome is known as hypercortisolism, is more common in women than men. It's most often seen in people ages 25 to 40.
Hypersecretion of cortisol hormone by adrenal gland causes Cushing's syndrome.
The most common cause is related to medications called glucocorticoids, also commonly known as steroids or prednisone.
Weight gain, obesity, fatty deposits, especially in the midsection, the face (causing a round, moon-shaped face), and between the shoulders and the upper back (causing a buffalo hump), purple stretch marks on the breasts, arms, abdomen, and thighs., thinning skin that bruises easily.
Treatment options include reducing steroid use, surgery, radiation and medication.
