Magadha developed as the most powerful Mahajanpada between 6th and 14 th centuries BC. The reasons were:
a. It was a very fertile region for agriculture.
b. It had iron mines and were rich in minerals which could be used to built tools and weapons.
c. Elephants which formed an important part of the army could be found in the forests here.
d. Ganga and its tributaries formed a good means of communication for trade and commerce.
e. Many famous rulers ruled from Magadha and formed important policies. Some of them were Bimbisara, Ajatasattu, Mahapadma Nanda etc.
