Characteristics:

  1. They are unicellular organisms.
  2. They have 70S ribosomes.
  3. The DNA is not bound by a nuclear membrane.
  4. It is devoid of organelles like mitochondria, lysosomes, plastids, Golgi bodies, endoplasmic reticulum, centrosome, etc.
  5. Reproduction is asexual by binary fission or budding.
  6. The cell wall is made up of peptidoglycan.
  7. The flagellum acts as the locomotory organ.
  8. They are environmental decomposers
  9. They have different modes of nutrition such as autotrophic, parasitic, heterotrophic, or saprophytic.
