  2. It is defined as the smallest unit of life that can sustain independently.
  3. All living organisms comprise one or more cells.

Discovery of the cell:

  1. Leeuwenhoek was the first scientist who developed a simple microscope.
  2. The microscope was able to magnify any object by 300 times.
  3. He was able to visualize living units called microbes in water and also the blood cells in the foot-web of frogs.
  4. Robert Hook was the first scientist to develop a compound microscope and has 2 lenses to see different objects.
  5. A slice of cork was first observed under the microscope.
  6. In 1665, he stated that the cork is made up of small box-like structures named cells.
