Farming:

It is the business of growing crops or raising livestock. It involves the following steps:

1. Soil preparation

• The soil on which crops are to be grown is prepared by plowing, leveling, and manuring before growing a crop.
• The method of loosening the soil using a plow is plowing.
• In this way, proper aeration of the soil occurs.
• The soil then becomes manured.

2. Sowing

• The primary process of sowing is the collection of seeds from good-quality crop strains.
• The seeds are spread in the field after soil preparation, this is called sowing.
• Sowing can be carried out by hand, manually, or by the usage of seed drilling machines.

3. Manuring

• For a good yield, crops require nutrients.
• Manuring is the phase in which nutritional supplements are used to improve soil quality.
• Manure is the result of animals' and plants' waste decay.

4. Irrigation

• Ponds, wells, lakes, dams, and canals can be used as water sources for the purpose of irrigation.
• Over irrigation can also lead to the crop being waterlogged and destroyed.
• The frequency and interval should be regulated between successive irrigation processes.

5. Weeding

• Unwanted plants that grow between crops are known as weeds.
• By the usage of weedicides, they are extracted by manually removing them with their hands and others are extracted during soil preparation.

6. Harvesting

The harvesting method refers to the cutting and resourcing of the crop.

7. Storage

• Grains yielded after processing are processed for marketing purposes in granaries or bins at godowns.
• So, crop protection strategies need to be stronger.
• Cleaning, drying, fumigation, etc. are performed before storage, to protect grains from pests and rodents.
