  • King Pulakeshi II was a brave and courageous ruler of the Chalukyan dynasty. He fought numerous battles. His first victory was over Laat in South Gujarat, followed by his win over Gurjar in North Gujarat.​
  • Pulkeshi II also fought a great battle with King Harshavardhan near River Narmada in which King Harshavardhan was defeated. ​
  • He was a great patron of art. During his reign, he transformed the capital Vatapi into a magnificent city. We can know about this from Hiuen Tsang’s travelogue In his where he has given a vivid account of the city’s grandeur. The caves of Vatapi and Dharapuri were built during his reign and the famous cave murals of Ajanta were also painted at that time.​
  • In terms of religion, Hinduism was practised by the kings of this dynasty. During Pulakeshi II’s reign, the popularity of Buddhism declined while the Digambar sect of Jainism gained popularity.​
