Open in App
Solution

  • Iron in the earth's crust is found in the form of ores like Haematite, Magnetite, etc.
  • These ores are taken in a blast furnace to extract a pure form of iron.
  • The most impure form of Iron that is extracted from the blast furnace is Pig Iron, which contains almost 4-5% of Carbon.
  • On heating the pig iron further, it produces the purest form of Iron, i.e., Wrought Iron which contains less than 1% of Carbon.
  • The most widely used form of Iron is steel. It contains up to 2% of Carbon.
  • Out of three varieties of Iron, steel is the one that undergoes least amount of corrosion.
