The Vijaynagar empire was established by two brothers - Harihara and Bukka. It was established in the south of the Tungabhadra river and in a matter of 8 years, they extended the kingdom till Kanyakumari. After the death of Harihara, Bukka took over the reign of the empire.
King Krishnadevaraya was one of the most powerful kings of the Vijaynagar kingdom. During his reign, he maintained good relations with the Europeans and gave patronage to art and literature. He constructed canals in South India and built grand temples and forts.
