A short note on SONAR :

  1. SONAR stands for sound navigation and ranging.
  2. It is a technique that is mainly used for underwater navigation in submarines.
  3. Sound waves are used to detect the object under and on the water for safe sailing.
  4. It can detect the echo of any sound and detect it.
  5. It measures the distance, direction, and speed of objects underwater.

Its working principle :

  1. It is installed on a ship or a boat .
  2. SONAR consists of a transmitter and a detector.
  3. The ultrasonic waves travel through water and after striking the target they are received by an underwater detector.
  4. The detector then converts the waves into electrical signals to be properly interpreted.
  5. The time interval between the transmitter and detector is also noted.
