1) Littoral zone is the part of the water bodies that is close to the shore.
  • The sunlight penetrates to the sediment and allows aquatic plants to grow.
2) Limnetic zone is the well-lit open surface waters in a lake away from the shore.
  • It is main photosynthetic body of the lake, which also produces the oxygen and food that support the lake's consumers.
3) Euphotic zone is the bright ocean layer called the sunlit zone.
4) Disphotic zone is the barely-lit ocean layer.
5) Profundal zone the range of effective light penetration is very low.
