Polychromatic light:
- A light source that gives light of several wavelengths (hence several colors) is called a polychromatic light source.
- White light is polychromatic because it is a combination of different wavelengths (violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red).
- It is mainly used in the production of diffraction gratings.
- Polychromatic light, when passed through a dispersive element and then through a narrow slit, gives the monochromatic light.
