Solution

Instructions: The answer to this question should talk about the formation of the Forward Bloc and Captain Mohansingh’s formation of the INA and the taking over by Subhash Chandra Bose.

Solution: In May 1939, Subhash Chandra Bose established the Forward Block. This political party launched anti-war propaganda at the time of the beginning of the Second World War in Europe. Subhash Chandra Bose, along with his followers, was arrested and imprisoned. He went on a hunger strike in jail, forcing the government to set him free. He was, however, kept under house arrest. On 17th January 1941, Bose escaped from house arrest and reached Berlin. From there, he went to Japan.
Captain Mohansingh, an Indian soldier from the British army, formed the Indian National Army (INA) or 'Azad Hind Fauj'. He was supported by the Indian soldiers who had surrendered to Japan as prisoners of war. The Japanese government and Rasbihari Bose, the founder of the INA, started to have differences. Due to these conflicts, Mohansingh resigned. With a general consent, Subhash Chandra Bose was appointed as the chief of 'Azad Hind Fauj' on 4th July, 1943.
