Mention the main Vachanakaras that contributed to this movement.
Explain the purpose of the movement.
Solution :
The most prominent social reform movement in Karnataka was the Vachana Movement against untouchability. It started from Kalyana in Kalaburagi.
Basavanna, Allamaprabhu, Akkamahadevi, Siddarama, and Jedara Dasimaiah are the famous Vachanakaras from this region.
The Vachana movement gave rise to Tatva Padakaraaru or philosophical poets like Chennur Jalal Saab and Hanumanthavva, who were the ones influenced by the Vachana Movement. These poets were folklore artists, fakirs, and saints who wrote philosophical lyrics.
Their lyrics were a tool to fight the caste system in the 18th and 19th century.
