India’s hot and humid forests are the natural habitats for elephants. The swampy and Marshy lands of Assam are home to the one-horned rhino. The snow-capped Himalayas are a natural place for the snow leopards and yaks. The Peninsular region of India is known for the diversity of wild animals like Indian Bisons, deer, and antelopes. India is the only country in the world where both tigers and lions are found.
In India, not only terrestrial animals but aquatic species are also in abundance. The water bodies like Rivers and estuaries along with the coastal areas are homes of many turtles, crocodiles, and gavials (gharial). Various species of birds like peacocks, Indian bustards, Kingfishers, ducks, parakeets, cranes, and pigeons are found in wetlands and forests.
