The lions are part of the Lion Capital in Sarnath. These lions shown on our currency notes honour of one of the greatest kings of India, Ashoka, who built the empire in all four directions. The religious interpretations also point out the the attainment of Buddhahood and its dominance in all four directions.We can also find the symbol as the official emblem of the government of India and on national gazette.
