For the farmer to get maximum yield from his farm, he has to minimise his crop loss. One important way to do so is crop protection management. Crops need protection from various dangers such as pests, insects, weeds, disease-causing pathogens etc. If a farmer does not protect his crops, all his other labour will be futile.
Crop protection is the science and practice of managing plant diseases, weeds and other pests (both vertebrate and invertebrate) that damage agricultural crops and forestry.

The management of crop protection includes:

• Chemical-based - Various chemicals are used to protect crops from pests and weeds.

1. Insecticides - Protect from insects
2. Weedicides - Protect from weeds
3. Fungicides - Protect from fungus.

• Biological pest control - Pests that damage crops are killed by using other organisms that do not damage the crops.
• Biotechnology-based approaches such as plant breeding and genetic modification.
