Question

Write an expression for Newton's Universal Law of Gravitation.

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

The universal law of gravitation states that the gravitational force of attraction between two masses separated by a certain distance is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the masses.
If m1 and m2 are the masses separated by a distance r then,

F α m1m2andF α 1r2

From the above equations,
F α m1m2r2F=Gm1m2r2

G is called the Universal gravitational constant. Its value is found to be 6.67×10-11 Nm2/kg2
