Solution

I) Under the indirect oral investigation method, the information is obtained orally from those persons who are expected to possess the necessary data.
The following are the demerits of using indirect oral investigation method:
i. Since the data is not collected directly from the concerned person, there exists a chance of the information being wrong or biased.
ii. This method of collecting data can lead to inappropriate and wrong conclusions if the data collected is not uniform in nature.
iii. It is a costly process, as it requires a huge investment of time as well as money by the investigators and experts.

II) The following are some of the merits of the sampling method.
i. In the sampling method, only a section of the population is studied. Thus, the sampling method saves time, effort and money.
ii. If the survey is carried out by trained and efficient enumerators, this method can provide reliable results.
iii. It proves to be most suitable in cases that involve large population.
iv. Errors on account of voluminous data are minimised.
