The significance of meiosis are
1. It produces diversity among the population by the action of random shuffling of chromosomes.
2. It maintains the genetic information for development of gametes.
3. Provides relationship of organisms by basic evidence.
4. Maintains the fixed number of chromosomes.
The anaphase of mitosis differ from meiosis by the following reasons
  • In mitosis centromere of chromosomes divides whereas they do not divide in meiosis.
  • In mitosis sister chromatids of every chromosome are separated whereas in meiosis homologous chromosomes are seperated.
  • In mitosis only one chromatid of a chromosome move towards the pole, whereas in meiosis one chromosome of a homologous pair of chromosome move towards the pole
