Mushrooms are commonly used as a source of food. There are many different varieties of mushrooms which are consumed due to its high food value. The two edible varieties of mushrooms are Agaricus bisporus and Lentinula edodes. The mushrooms are rich in protein and low-fat content. The protein values range very high. They are also a good source of iron, phosphorus and certain other mineral nutrients. There are different vitamins present in the mushrooms like vitamin B2, pantothenic acid, niacin and vitamin D. Mushrooms are rich in essential amino acids. The patients suffering from diabetes are preferred to consume mushrooms due to its high protein and less amount of fat.
