Osmotic pressure is the minimum pressure which needs to be applied to a solution to prevent the inward flow of its pure solvent across a semipermeable membrane.
When two liquids of the different cone. are separated by SPM, solvent flows from low cone. to high conc., amount of external pressure required to be applied on a conc. side to stop a movement of solvent is known as osmotic pressure.
It is also defined as the measure of the tendency of a solution to take ina pure solvent by osmosis.
