There are 2 main rules, which governs binomial nomenclature:

1) Both genus and species names should be in italics in print format but when handwritten they should be underlined.

2) Genus name should start with capital letter and species name should start with small letter.

Example: Apple (common name) -Pyrus malus (Scientific name).
