Solution

Explanation
  • Transpiration is the process of loss of water by leaves through evaporation. This occurs via stomata.
  • Stomata are small pores surrounded by guard cells present in leaves. Opening and closure of these pores are determined by the turgidity of guard cells.
  • Less than 1% of water is used for photosynthesis and the remaining is released by transpiration.
  • Xylem compensates for the loss of water through stomata by increasing the absorption of fluids. Pull of water to larger heights due to transpiration is called transpiration pull.
  • Thus transpiration also plays an important role in the absorption and distribution of water and minerals to all plant parts.
