Write one main function of sunken stomata.

Sunken stomata:

  1. Sunken stomatas are the adaptations of plants of xerophytic region.
  2. The stomatas in these plants sink into the epidermis and gets surrounded by hair like structures inside a tiny air pocket.

Function:

  1. They reduce the rate of water loss by transpiration.
  2. Air pockets reduce the flow and movement of air in the vicinity of stomatas due to which overall rate of transpiration reduces.
